Today is the day that I said, enough is enough. I made a choice along with my hubby to change our eating habits. We love to eat. We love carbs and sweets. We also enjoy an alcoholic beverage couple times a week. 1 or 2 drinks at night but we both know this has to stop. We live in society that drinking is so normal now but I feel deep inside that it should not be the normal.
I eliminated bread from my diet a few months back. I LOVE bread. I never thought it was possible to give it up. Seriously, I used to eat sandwiches everyday even though I would get sick and bloated every time I ate it... Most restaurants we go to start out with a nice warm fresh bread and butter. But guess what? I did it and I'm so proud of that. My hubby loves bread as well and I'm proud to say for the last 3 days he haven't had any
My friend Agnes kept telling me about her friends that do this Whole30 program as a group and have had a huge success.
My answer was, good for them! Deep inside I kept thinking about it but never did it along with them. I always have a good excuse for everything. I always told myself that I could not do it for this reason or another. Until now.
So yesterday was our first day of Whole30. My wonderful hubby and 2 of my best friends are doing it along with us. I am so excited and positive about this lifestyle change. I will keep you posted here on my journey. I will share my food ideas with you. I was actually surprised with how much you can actually eat. I will attach the rules here.
Yesterday was day 1 and even with traveling back home from an event in Florida I did great! Find a friend that is willing to do this with you and come along If you don't have that friend I'm here for you.
If you would like to start with us join along. It's not too late. I'm treating this as a lifestyle. A lifestyle change that I can teach my kids as well early on in life so they can make healthy choices as they grow up.
Below is some tips on how to make this easier.
To drink more water I add Young Living Citrus Vitality oils to my water . If you don't have any, you can get them here
We also drink NingXia Red in the am to prevent the sugar cravings, I know that it's not part of the program but NingXia is a staple in our house everyday to keep our immune system strong :) If you would like to read more about it go here.
I will do my best to record my progress daily, I hope that you decide to go on this journey with us!
Today was one of those days. I woke up and all I wanted to do is cry for no reason. We all have days like this, don't lie. It's that "time" of the month and after I dropped off my boys at school all I wanted to do is crawl back in bed and feel miserable but instead I said to myself: STOP IT!!! Stop it right now! Get dressed and get your butt to the gym!!! I wiped my tears, got dressed and went. Let me tell you it was the BEST thing I did. They gym is the best antidepressant around. It really is. I went, I gave it my all, I laughed with my group I was in and I feel AMAZING!
Regular exercise has been proven to:
If you are having bad days like I did today quite often please get your self moving!!! Sitting on the couch being miserable won't do anything for you. I can't stretch enough how it all starts with you. YOU need to make a decision to get up everyday and do something great for yourself. Find a gym that makes you want to go too or simply go for a walk. What ever it is you won't regret it, I promise you. I'm very lucky to have found a place a block away from me that I absolutely love. Im meeting new people everyday and my body is slowly changing. My goal is pretty big but I know with time anything is possible.
So, STOP feeling sorry for yourself and get going! Let's do this together!!!
Year 1978, I was born. Living in a large building with tons of young families was a blessing.
I remember growing up in Poland and we were always outside EVERYDAY from morning to night. We would always come home for lunch and dinner and the rest of the day we were outdoors. It didn't matter if it was summer or winter. We didn't have many toys but we had a wild imagination and tons of friends and that's all we needed to keep us HAPPY!
Fast forward to 2007,
I became a Mom. The biggest JOY came into my life after having my first child. I was so excited to finally do such exciting things with my son! Shortly after I realized that things have changed BIG TIME since I was a kid.. I would put my son in the stroller and go walk around and not find a single soul doing the same. But I kept going everyday. After my 2nd son was born I knew I had to find a group of moms that were just like me. Looking around on the internet I came across MEETUP.com
On there I found a local group of Moms that would get together everyday and socialize while the kids played! It was life changing for me!!! All my friends worked so this was exactly what I needed. I joined the group and the fun begun! We had stuff on the calendar EVERYDAY so it was easy to stay busy. I met a lot of great moms along the way and my kids created some great friendships. Fast forward a few years my boys started school, and then it all ended. All the meetups were in the morning so we no longer could attend but I knew I had to stay busy :)
When my boys started school we got busy with just getting through the day that we forgot about the importance of being present for our kids, and we forgot about the importance of letting our children act like children... They were on their IPads more and watched TV a lot more... We started to notice that the grind of life was getting in the way of our happiness factor and this was really starting to affect our children... So we decided to CHANGE things around.
My boys are now in Kindergarden and 2nd grade and everyday after school they do their homework, eat and we go off to our local park or meetup with our friends. It's great because they don't have time to sit around and watch TV all afternoon. Because they were around so many kids growing up they have no problems meeting new kids and playing with them :) They love staying busy and I love watching them use their imagination and do exactly what we did . BE KIDS.
So, how did we do it? How do we play more and stress less, how do we teach our kids to be kids again? It takes a bit of effort to change routine and a willingness on the part of the parents to let go of some of the structure and to step out of the rat race in order to be more like a kid yourself. The end result will be better health and more happiness for the entire family!
Raising happy healthy kids is not easy, especially in todays world of technology and with pressures of over scheduling and keeping up with the Joneses. Remember, if something feels off, if you notice that your kids happiness level is not where you want it to be, or that they seem stressed out way more than they seem happy, it might be as simple as playing more and structuring less and letting your kids just be who they are and trusting that your love and acceptance and guidance will help them turn into the incredible and secure grownups we know they can someday be.
This one daily routine changed my life! It's so easy and simple to do. It's called GRATITUDE. Every morning as we get ready for the day we say and express out loud 3 things that we are grateful for. It's amazing how much better you instantly feel!
It's simple things like:
Our warm bed
Our family and on and on
I feel like it's done wonders for our family, the best part, it will change YOU as a person in such a huge way. You start out the day saying positive things to yourself so your whole day will be a better day ;)
Have a blessed day filled with happiness and sunshine,
Being a parent to 2 boys 6 & 8 could be very challenging at times but with hard work and dedication it gets easier, we just had to learn how to keep them active. Over the last couple of months we are really changing things around our house. Before, if I needed to get things done I would hand over the Ipads to my boys and they would waste a lot of time on them and became more and more lazy... Don't get me wrong they still get their Ipads here and there but I set up the timer and take them away when it's time.
We knew we had to change things or it would get worse with time! So a big motivation in our life is Randy Gage, he talks a lot about setting goals and following through with them. So here we are following his advice and I'm definitely seeing huge changes in my kids.
Here are my 10 top tips to keep the kids active :
1. My older sons school is 2 blocks away so we started walking to school vs taking a car.
2. Everyday after they come home from school we do homework and go for a bike ride or a walk.
3. My husband got them these cheap heart monitors/watches that count their steps and that motivates them to walk more ;) Anything to do with competition they are on it!
4. We go outside everyday, they play soccer or go to the park (tons of running there).
5. Find time every weekend to do something active with your children, it could be as simple as going for a walk.
6. Fly a kite at your local park
7. Pick up sticks or garbage around the house (my hubby is really good at that)
8. Teach them to carry groceries in the house.
9. Do fun challenging games for them (in the summer there is differnt games we play with chalk on our driveway)
10. Make it exciting for them ;)
My kids now LOVE to "exercise". There are days that we just want to be lazy but we know we have to do it for them. The best thing about it all, we are becoming closer as a family. My older one especially smiles from ear to ear as we go on our family bike rides. This past weekend we did 13 miles on a trail and he didn't complain once! This is so rewarding for me as a mom to see their big smiles at the end of the day. Tommy always says, this is the best day ever! Melts my heart every time, because we are not doing anything crazy , we are just spending time as a family.... If you are struggling with your kids start slow. Go for a walk around the block. I do realize that when winter comes we might have to join our local gym to keep them going. They have tons of activities for them there! Start now, don't wait until they get older... I'm sure glad we did!
